Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis) is used as a pharmaceutical in Europe for the treatment of oral and genital herpes, cold sores, canker sores, shingles and chicken pox.  It is effective against bacterial infections of the skin as well.  It is the base in the German pharmaceutical product Lomaherpan, which contains a 1% concentration.  Our cream contains a 2% concentration of our own fresh, organic herbal extract.  Backed by extensive European research this herb has anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-histamine, anti-itch, anti-tingling, antiseptic and antioxidant actions.  In addition, it is known to soothe bothersome insect bites and chronic skin inflammation.

Echinacea (Purple Coneflower) is also used in Europe to reduce the severity and duration of viral symptoms.  In 2006 it was approved in Germany as a pharmaceutical skin care treatment for viral and bacterial infections, inflammation and other skin problems.  Clinical trials showed an 85% or greater efficacy rate.  In addition, it reduces skin damage caused by sunlight.  Our product contains a 2% concentration of our own fresh, organic herbal extract.
